Lutein and zeaxanthin are natural carotenoids - a group of pigments that provide the yellow, orange, and red color of fruits, vegetables, and other plants. In addition to color, they play an important role in light absorption during photosynthesis and protection against damage caused by harmful light rays and free radicals.
They are also found in our retina, specifically in the macula, which is responsible for sharp vision. There, they perform similar tasks as in plants - acting as a filter that allows only certain rays into the eyes, while reflecting UV rays and blue light.
The African marigold extract in capsules is a source of both lutein and zeaxanthin - obtained from an extract in a ratio of 200:1, offering 32 mg of lutein and 2 mg of zeaxanthin per daily dose.
